Moral Courage and Nonviolent Transformation

Lawrence Edward Carter Sr. is the Dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel and a Professor of Religion at Morehouse College. A scholar of religion, ethics, and nonviolence, he is the founder of Morehouse’s Gandhi King Ikeda Institute for Ethics and Reconciliation and the International Hall of Honor, a collection of more than 300 portraits honoring civil and human rights leaders. His books include The Baptist Preacher’s Buddhist Teacher and Global Ethical Options: In the Tradition of Gandhi, King, and Ikeda. Following Dr. CarterÊ»s remarks, a panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Maya Soetoro. This event is presented by the Office of the Chancellor, University of HawaiÊ»i at ²ÑÄå²Ô´Ç²¹. Organized in coordination with the Better Tomorrow Speaker Series, a joint venture of ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½ ²ÑÄå²Ô´Ç²¹, The Learning Coalition, and HawaiÊ»i Community Foundation. Additional support is provided by Soka Gakkai International-USA, the Tony Group Foundation, the Matsunaga Institute for Peace, the United Nations Association–Honolulu Chapter, and Peacebuilding LLC.
