The fall 2019 semester doesn\u2019t officially start until August, but incoming Oʻahu<\/span> freshmen at the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a> can get a jumpstart with 14 early academic advising workshops beginning in June.<\/p>\n

The new pilot initiative, Summer Advising<\/a>, runs from June 17 to July 5 and is spearheaded by the Mānoa Advising Center<\/a> in collaboration with nearly all ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½<\/abbr> Mānoa undergraduate advising offices<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are interactive in-person workshops<\/a> for Oʻahu<\/span> freshmen and distance learning modules<\/a>, which are designed to benefit all incoming students but especially those from the neighbor islands and continental U.S.<\/p>\n

Leilani Takeuchi Harjati<\/strong>, coordinator of Summer Advising, said the timing of workshops is intentional.<\/p>\n

“Our hope is to connect freshmen with their respective undergraduate advising offices early in the summer to finalize their registration schedule,” she said. “Students can then whole-heartedly participate in welcome activities such as Making Mānoa Yours Orientation<\/a> and other events through their schools and colleges.”<\/p>\n

By attending the interactive workshops, incoming freshmen can review, create and finalize their fall course schedules and meet with academic advisors from prospective majors and colleges. Each workshop runs three hours in Building 37<\/a>. There are also concurrent involvement sessions available for family members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
