{"id":94029,"date":"2019-04-04T13:00:45","date_gmt":"2019-04-04T23:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=94029"},"modified":"2019-05-10T15:46:42","modified_gmt":"2019-05-11T01:46:42","slug":"johnson-controls-200k-grant-energy-and-sustainability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2019\/04\/04\/johnson-controls-200k-grant-energy-and-sustainability\/","title":{"rendered":"<abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> receives $200<abbr title=\"thousand\">K<\/abbr> to support statewide energy and sustainability education"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/system-johnson-controls-grant.jpg\" alt=\"糖心Vlog官方 accepting the Johnson Controls grant at the Hawaii Energy Conference and Exhibition\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-94038\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/system-johnson-controls-grant.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/system-johnson-controls-grant-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/system-johnson-controls-grant-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Building on its efforts to grow new leaders in sustainability, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johnsoncontrols.com\/\">Johnson Controls<\/a> Foundation has donated $200,000 to the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> to support statewide sustainability education efforts.<\/p>\n<p>This grant will fund:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Salaries for <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> students to work on research projects addressing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, energy, water and security related issues.<\/li>\n<li>The Johnson Controls Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (<abbr>RAC<\/abbr>) Technology scholarship for students in the <abbr>RAC<\/abbr> Technology program at Honolulu <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Vice President for Community Colleges <strong>John Morton<\/strong> said, &ldquo;This new award from Johnson Controls grows an impressive history of support for sustainability related initiatives at <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>.&rdquo; Morton continued, &ldquo;The key to nurturing future leaders in sustainability is the ability to offer hands-on learning opportunities for students to develop solutions that can save energy and water. We are most grateful to Johnson Controls for their multi-faceted support and partnership.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> became the first state in the country to make an unprecedented commitment to achieve 100 percent renewable energy by 2045. Concurrently, <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> and the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Legislature established a collective goal for the university system to be \u201cnet-zero\u201d by January 1, 2035, meaning the system would produce as much renewable energy as it consumes across its campuses. Partners, including Johnson Controls, are supporting <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>\u2019s sustainability initiatives.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Maui College is on track to make the campus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2018\/03\/19\/maui-college-aims-to-be-first-100-percent-renewable-energy\/\">among the first in the nation to generate 100 percent of its energy<\/a> from on-site solar photovoltaic systems coupled with battery storage.
