The job was announced locally and nationally on July 20, 2018, and the expected start date is in January 2019. Windward <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>\u2019s current chancellor, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/leadership\/douglas-dykstra\/\">Douglas Dykstra<\/a>, will retire in December 2018. He has served as chancellor since 2009.<\/p>\n<p>In making the search announcement, University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Vice President for Community Colleges <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/leadership\/john-morton\/\">John Morton<\/a> said Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> is seeking a visionary leader who can guide the college to address challenges and opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The next chancellor must embody Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u2019s  mission, vision and values of ka lama k\u016b o ka <span aria-label=\"naauao\">na&#699;auao<\/span> (creating meaningful curricula and diverse learning experiences), <span aria-label=\"aohe\">&#699;a&#699;ohe<\/span> hana nui ke alu <span aria-label=\"ia\">&#699;ia<\/span> (working collaboratively and inclusively), he p\u016bn\u0101wai kahe wale ke aloha (serving and supporting with aloha), k\u016blia i ka <span aria-label=\"nuu\">nu&#699;u<\/span> (striving for excellence), and he <span aria-label=\"alii\">ali&#699;i<\/span> ka <span aria-label=\"aina\">&#699;\u0101ina<\/span>, he kauw\u0101 ke kanaka (caring for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and the planet),&rdquo; Morton said.<\/p>\n<h2>Search timeline<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Chancellor Search Advisory Committee plans to begin screening applicants and nominees in August 2018.<\/li>\n<li>In addition to in-person interviews by the finalists planned in November 2018, on-campus visits will be scheduled to ensure that students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders are able to attend open forums.
