The Education Doctorate in Professional Educational Practice<\/a> (EdD<\/abbr>) program in the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at M\u0101noa College of Education<\/a> received a 2018 Program of the Year Award from the Carnegie Project of the Education Doctorate<\/a> (CPED<\/abbr>). Distinct from other doctoral degrees in education, EdD<\/abbr> was recognized for program innovation in its implementation of CPED<\/abbr> principles and design within a local context.<\/p>\n

“It is such an honor to be recognized amongst the top EdD<\/abbr> programs in our nation,” said outgoing EdD<\/abbr> Director Sarah Twomey<\/strong>. “This award is the result of the dedication of our faculty, community mentors and community partners. I am very grateful for the support of Veselina Lambrev<\/strong><\/a> who co-authored the application for the award and has provided tireless support and care for the program and students throughout my leadership. EdD<\/abbr> will continue to show the important work that the College of Education is capable of in preparing culturally sustaining and compassionate leaders.”<\/p>\n

CPED<\/abbr> committee members reviewed finalist applications from institutions across the nation and were impressed by the ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½<\/abbr> M\u0101noa program for its culture-based curriculum, signature group consultancy project, social justice component and robust program assessment system among other high-quality markers. The program was recognized during CPED<\/abbr>\u2019s June convening at Florida State University.<\/p>\n

More on the Education Doctorate in Professional Educational Practice<\/h2>\n

The EdD<\/abbr> program prepares professionals for leadership roles at all levels of education as well as those whose main interest is the application of research in education settings. It is a cohort model that includes three years of study in a collaborative atmosphere. Designed with the career professional in mind, the program meets Saturdays on campus.<\/p>\n
