W. Kim<\/strong>, chairman and <abbr title=\"cheif operating officer\">CEO<\/abbr> of <abbr>AMKOR<\/abbr> A&#038;E Inc. and chairman of the Ohana Pacific Bank board of directors, died March 27. Kim was a passionate and active alumnus of the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>After earning his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eng.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Engineering<\/a> in 1958, Kim worked for R.M. Towill, one of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>\u2019s largest and oldest civil engineering firms. He became president in 1978, then chairman and <abbr title=\"cheif operating officer\">CEO<\/abbr> in 1981, retiring in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>A dedicated <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> supporter, Kim served on the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/bor\/\">Board of Regents<\/a> from 1997 to 2001 and chaired the board from 1998 to 2000. He was also a two-term <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/\"><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Foundation<\/a> trustee from 1991 to 1997 and <a href=\"https:\/\/uhalumni.org\/\"><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Alumni Association<\/a> president from 1994 to 1995.<\/p>\n<p>In 1990, Kim was honored with the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award, and in 2008 he was presented the College of Engineering Dean\u2019s Centennial Award.<\/p>\n<p>Kim and his wife established the Donald C.W. Kim Multimedia Laboratory in 1999, a state-of-the-art student computer lab, at the College of Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Donald was a distinguished alumnus of <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> and, as a very successful businessman and engineer, he made it a point to give back,&rdquo; said <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> President David Lassner. &ldquo;He was a generous donor who supported the college that provided him his education.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Kim is survived by wife Iris Kyong Ok, sons Rex (Suzanne) and Dean (Ann), and grandchildren Sophia, Ryan, Isabelle and Bryce.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about Kim at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.staradvertiser.com\/2018\/04\/21\/business\/engineer-rose-through-ranks-to-ceo-at-r-m-towill\/\"><em>Honolulu Star Advertiser<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After earning his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa College of Engineering, Donald C.
