Thomas Kosasa<\/strong>, professor emeritus at the John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> (JABSOM<\/abbr>) donated $500,000 to honor the longtime JABSOM<\/abbr> director of admissions Satoru Izutsu<\/strong> and establish the Satoru Izutsu PhD<\/abbr> Endowed Professorship of Medical Education at the school plus an additional $100,000 that can be used immediately. Izutsu donated an additional $100,000.<\/p>\n

JABSOM<\/abbr> Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Alan Otsuki<\/a><\/strong> is the first Satoru Izutsu PhD<\/abbr> Endowed Professorship of Medical Education.<\/p>\n

“I am deeply honored to be named the inaugural Satoru Izutsu Professor of Medical Education and will do my very best to follow in Dr. Izutsu’s distinguished and very energetic footsteps,” said Otsuki.<\/p>\n

While studying at the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span>, Izutsu was a ROTC<\/abbr> cadet. Soon after graduation in 1950, during the Korean War, he was called to active duty. Upon discharge, he remained in the active reserves for 30 years and retired as a full colonel. His last Army Reserve assignment was as mobilization designee to the Chief of the Army Medical Specialist Corps, Office of the Surgeon General at the Pentagon.<\/p>\n

Later, Izutsu served at the associate dean and director of admissions at JABSOM<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n

Izutsu was honored by the government of Japan in January and presented the Order of the Rising Sun medal for leading 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> aid to Okinawa.<\/p>\n
