AstroDay, held at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.konacommons.com\/\">Kona Commons Shopping Center<\/a>, featured activities and demonstrations from more than 30 astronomy, space and science organizations.<\/p>\n<p>&rdquo;We have hosted AstroDays in Hilo for the past 16 years, but did not have the opportunity to bring an event of this scale to the Kona side,&ldquo; said <strong>Carolyn Kaichi<\/strong>, event organizer from the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M\u0101noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifa.hawaii.edu\/\">Institute for Astronomy<\/a>, &rdquo;This partnership with the Kona Commons was an opportunity we couldn\u2019t refuse!&ldquo;<\/p>\n<p>AstroDay West <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> featured the observatories from Maunakea, Maunaloa and Haleakal\u0101. Also included were science-related organizations such as PISCES, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imiloahawaii.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Imiloa\">&#699;Imiloa<\/span> Astronomy Center<\/a>, Natural Energy Laboratory and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Electric Light.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/manoa-ifa-kona-astroday-1.jpg\" alt=\"kids looking at astronomy exhibit\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-70602\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/manoa-ifa-kona-astroday-1.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/manoa-ifa-kona-astroday-1-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Students from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.khswaveriders.org\/\">Kealakehe High School<\/a> were a big hit with their table full of fun activities. <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/palamanui\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Community College&#8211;P\u0101lamanui<\/a> natural sciences department added to the science fun, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/clubs\/astrophysics\/\"><abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½<\/abbr> Hilo Astrophysics Club<\/a> showed visitors the features of the sun with solar telescopes.<\/p>\n<p>&rdquo;This is one of the busiest event we have experienced here at Kona Commons,&ldquo; said Nancy Sakamoto, Kona Commons general manager. &rdquo;We are thrilled to be a part of such a great community experience,&ldquo;<\/p>\n<p>AstroDay is an event inspired by the a Astronomical League, a national amateur astronomy group dedicated to promote the science of astronomy and appreciation of the night sky.
