The fair is on Saturday, November 4, 9 a.m.&#8212;3 p.m. on the Pearl City campus. <\/p>\n<p>The Discovery Fair includes more than 50 bustling hands-on learning activities for the entire family.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69895\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69895\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/leeward-dicoveryfair-tiedye.jpg\" alt=\"Guests participating at worm booth\" width=\"300\" height=\"273\" class=\"size-full wp-image-69895\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-69895\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The magic of polymer worms<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Returning crowd-favorites<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Quicksand goo<\/strong>&#8212;a mysterious substance that&#8217;s both solid and liquid<\/li>\n<li><strong>Polymer worms<\/strong>&#8212;the magic of polymers<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hands-on clay sculpting<\/strong>&#8212;take a spin with a pottery wheel<\/li>\n<li><strong>3-2-1 blast-off rockets<\/strong>&#8212;create and launch your personalized rocket<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bug city<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Interactive fire station<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Tours of the fossil and mineral and natural history exhibits<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Additional offerings<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lightning bolt challenge<\/strong>&#8212;a speedy competition diving into the nuts and bolts of engine<\/li>\n<li><strong>Banana bongos<\/strong>&#8212;create music with everyday items, such as bananas, apples and a cup of water<\/li>\n<li><strong>Weird gears<\/strong>&#8212;an introduction to mechanical engineering<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fun with fish<\/strong>&#8212;learn the ancient art of Gyotaku, the traditional Japanese method of creating an artistic print of a fish<\/li>\n<li><strong>Figure it out<\/strong>&#8212;decode an ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic message and win a prize<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bubble geometry<\/strong>&#8212;take a stand inside a giant bubble\u2026or create some awesome bubbles in a variety of shapes and sizes<\/li>\n<li><strong>Anthro selfie<\/strong>&#8212;take a selfie with our early human ancestor, the famous &ldquo;Lucy&rdquo;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kreating kalo<\/strong>&#8212;construct a kalo (taro) plant out of new and recycled materials<\/li>\n<li><strong>Food booths, used book fair and traditional Korean games<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the sixth consecutive year, the fair also features Weed and Seed <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and Celebrate Safe Communities, offering fun and informative activities. Meeting Honolulu Police Department&#8217;s trained dogs, fighting virtual fires and exploring a variety of emergency vehicles add to the day&#8217;s excitement.<\/p>\n<p>Weed and Seed <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> showcases a number of federal, state and local law enforcement exhibits including Keiki <abbr title=\"Identification\">IDs<\/abbr>, McGruff, the Crime Dog, and medication take-back.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is our 27th year in presenting our annual fair. We&#8217;ve always placed family at the center and I am so proud of the event&#8217;s growth. There really is something for everyone,&rdquo; said Leeward <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> Chancellor, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/leadership\/manuel-cabral\/\">Manny Cabral<\/a><\/strong> &rdquo;We&#8217;re happy to continue our partnership with Weed and Seed, as we work together to make education fun for the youth and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Fair entry, parking, used book fair and all educational activities are free.
