The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> Maui College<\/a> is offering a Growers Food Safety Certification Course<\/a> from the nationally recognized Product Safety Alliance (PSA). Learn about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rules, good agricultural practices, and co-management of natural resources and food safety.<\/p>\n

The certification course will take place May 24, 8:30 a.m.—5 p.m. at the ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½<\/abbr> Maui College Laulima Building 105. For fees and registration visit the Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Training<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Food safety and modernization requirement<\/h2>\n

The PSA<\/abbr> grower training course satisfies the FSMA<\/abbr> produce safety requirement that states “At least one supervisor or responsible party for your farm must have successfully completed food safety training at least equivalent to that received under standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drug Administration.”<\/em><\/p>\n

After attending the entire course, participants will be eligible to receive a certificate from the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) that verifies they have completed the training course. To receive an AFDO<\/abbr> certificate, a participant must be present for the entire training and submit the appropriate paperwork to their trainer at the end of the course.<\/p>\n
