What&#8217;s not as widely known is how a unique partnership between the farm and the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> is growing future farmers. <\/p>\n<p>MA&#699;O has been providing scholarships and stipends for post-secondary expenses for qualified <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> students through its Youth Leadership Training program since 2001. For more than 15 years, the MA&#699;O program has supported more than 300 students from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward Community College<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhwo.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M&#257;noa<\/a> for a total value of more than $1 million in scholarships and other aid. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&#8217;s definitely helping us go to school,&rdquo; says <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> student <strong>Chelsie Onaga<\/strong>, who is working on a degree in sustainable community food systems. &ldquo;Some of us might not be able to afford it on our own, but by working here, we can afford to go to school and pursue a better education for ourselves.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/system-mao-farm.jpg\" alt=\"MAO Farm student washing vegetables\" width=\"620\" height=\"398\" class=\"size-full wp-image-57568\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/system-mao-farm.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/system-mao-farm-260x167.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>MA&#699;O Organic Farms Executive Director Kukui Maunakea-Forth says <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> has been a great partner in terms of providing a foundation for the students. &ldquo;The tuition support comes as part of their participation in MA&#699;O&#8217;s Youth Leadership Training program, and it&#8217;s really a huge incentive and huge motivator for many of them.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>The practical fieldwork through employment at MA&#699;O provides hands-on experience that is also invaluable to budding future farmers. <\/p>\n<p>Leeward Community College student <strong>Scott Kaeo, Jr.<\/strong> says he does not know of any other farms hosting internships like MA&#699;O&#8217;s.
