Would an electric sander help to finally refinish that aging dining table or wood floor? Yet, you don&#8217;t want to buy a tool you will only end up using once. The <a href=\"http:\/\/hnltoollibrary.org\/\"><abbr title=\"Honolulu\">HNL<\/abbr> Tool Library<\/a> may be the place for you. It is the first tool library in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and has dozens of tools to help finish that do-it-yourself job. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;A tool library works just like a book library but it allows you to borrow tools instead of books,&rdquo; said <strong>Elia Bruno<\/strong>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M&#257;noa<\/a> student, who started and runs the <abbr>HNL<\/abbr> Tool Library with other volunteers. &ldquo;I really hope for people to understand that sharing a lot of the time just makes a lot of sense, and if we can be sharing tools we can also be sharing anything else.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>For a nominal membership fee, the <abbr>HNL<\/abbr> Tool Library, located inside <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reusehawaii.org\/home.php\">Re-use <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><\/a>, offers access to dozens of hand and powered tools. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_53380\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-53380\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/system-tool-library-260x164.jpg\" alt=\"Elia Bruno greeting tool library patron\" width=\"260\" height=\"164\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-53380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/system-tool-library-260x164.jpg 260w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/system-tool-library-480x300.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/system-tool-library.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 260px) 100vw, 260px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-53380\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Elia Bruno started and runs the <abbr>HNL<\/abbr> Tool Library with other volunteers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;I would say projects are much easier to tackle now with the tool library,&rdquo; said Jack Beuttell as he was borrowing a paint sprayer for a home improvement  project. &ldquo;Before, I wasn&#8217;t sure what tools I needed, I wasn&#8217;t sure if I could afford them.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>Made possible by the support of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Community Foundation<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/sustainability\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Office of Sustainability<\/a> and Re-use <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>, the <abbr>HNL<\/abbr> Tool Library plans to expand. The plan is for the library to include kitchen appliances, camping and gardening equipment, space for projects using stationary woodshop machinery and  classes for every ability level and budget.
