Accepting on behalf of the Clorinda Low Lucas, her grandson Myron Thompson, Jr., and granddaughter Lita Blankenfeld, accepting on behalf of The Queen’s Health Systems, CEO<\/abbr> Art Ushijima, and honoree, Senator Susie Chun Oakland<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa’s Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work<\/a> 80th Anniversary gala was held at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaiʻi<\/span><\/a>’s Mānoa Grand Ballroom on October 28. The Gala honored Elizabeth Jessamine Kauikeolani “Clorinda” Low Lucas<\/a> (1895–1986), Senator Susie Chun Oakland<\/a> and the Queen’s Health Systems<\/a>. In addition to showcasing honorees, the School of Social Work celebrated their 2016 U.S. News and World Report<\/em> ranking in the top 25 percent of schools nationally.<\/p>\n

Proceeds from the gala and silent auction will be used to develop an endowed student scholarship. <\/p>\n

“In 2016 social work education celebrates its 80th anniversary at the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa. The legacy and longevity of social work is rooted in the premise that social work helps people in need,” said Dean Noreen Mokuau<\/strong> “When we lift those who are the most vulnerable, we in fact lift everyone in the global community.” <\/p>\n
