Burns School of Medicine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The list of Top Doctors of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> includes 350 graduates or medical professors from the medical school at the <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M&#257;noa<\/a>. The healthcare research firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.castleconnolly.com\/\">Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd.<\/a> identified 558 physicians statewide for the honor, based on surveys asking physician peers who they respect the most.<\/p>\n<p>The Top Doctors issue comes the same month as the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Physician Workforce Assessment reported that the state currently has 500 fewer doctors than its population needs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> News story<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2016\/09\/12\/doctor-supply-grew-but-statewide-shortage-is-still-apparent\/\"><em>Doctor supply grew but statewide shortage is still apparent<\/em><\/a>, September 12, 2016 <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;Maintaining and growing our medical school is the most effective way to reduce the shortage, because doctors who learn their skills in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8212;especially during the residency training which immediately follows medical school&#8212;overwhelmingly stay to practice here,&rdquo; said <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhcancercenter.org\/about-us\/2-directory\/187-jerris-r-hedges-md\">Jerris Hedges<\/a><\/strong>, John A. Burns School of Medicine dean and Barry and Virginia Weiman Endowed Chair.<\/p>\n<p>The John A.
