The delegates will address many of the issues discussed at the 2016 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iucnworldconservationcongress.org\/\"><abbr title=\"International Union for Conservation of Nature\">IUCN<\/abbr> World Conservation Congress<\/a>. The 2017 congress is being hosted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/sustainability\/ssch\/\">Student Sustainability Coalition of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><\/a>, a <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> student organization, and <a href=\"http:\/\/peacechild.org\/\">Peace Child International<\/a> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Youth voices play an important role in international dialogue not only to introduce fresh ideas today, but also to empower the stewards of tomorrow to sustain future conversations,&rdquo; said <strong>Jessica Sevilla<\/strong>, a University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M&#257;noa Sustainability Fellow.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> is thrilled to host the 2017 World Youth Congress (WYC), particularly after being the host for the first <abbr>WYC<\/abbr> in 1999,&rdquo; said Jessica Worchel, board chair of Peace Child International <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. &ldquo;Youth across the globe are actively engaged in exploring how communities are tackling international challenges by reconnecting to indigenous wisdom and identifying contemporary solutions and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> is an ideal location to demonstrate how the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals can be owned and advanced at local levels. We also look forward to welcoming back the <span aria-label=\"Hokulea\">H&#333;k&#363;le&#699;a<\/span> and celebrating a new generation of youth voices&rdquo; <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_49870\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-49870\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/system-world-youth-congress-1999.jpg\" alt=\"international group of people\" width=\"620\" height=\"329\" class=\"size-full wp-image-49870\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/system-world-youth-congress-1999.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/system-world-youth-congress-1999-260x138.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-49870\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The first World Youth Congress in 1999 was held in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Inspired by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hokulea.com\/\">Worldwide Voyage of <span aria-label=\"Hokulea\">H&#333;k&#363;le&#699;a<\/span><\/a> and its global call to M&#257;lama Honua, international delegates attending the 2017 World Youth Congress will explore the theme &ldquo;Reconnecting to our Ancestral Roots to build Sustainable Communities&rdquo; and work on the following questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How do we repair, restore and regenerate our natural environment? <\/li>\n<li>What kind of livelihoods do we want to create to ensure that our communities and planet thrive? <\/li>\n<li>How can young leaders engage with and influence global decision makers? <\/li>\n<li>How can young leaders contextualize the United Nations Sustainable? <\/li>\n<li>Development Goals and work with member states to achieve them by 2030? <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;We are kind of a microcosm of the world,&rdquo; said Student Sustainability Coalition of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> member and <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> student <strong>Jeff Kim<\/strong>. &ldquo;If we can make sustainability work here, we know that there&#8217;s a lot of hope for the rest of the world as a whole.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The 2017 World Youth Congress reinforces next generation leadership on the Aloha+ Challenge, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8217;s statewide sustainability initiative to achieve the <abbr title=\"United Nations\">UN<\/abbr> 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at a local level,&rdquo; said Celeste Connors, executive director of <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiigreengrowth.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Green Growth<\/a>. &ldquo;This is an extremely exciting opportunity for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8217;s youth, especially as it will be timed with return of <span aria-label=\"Hokulea\">H&#333;k&#363;le&#699;a<\/span> from the Worldwide Voyage and the launch of the Aloha+ Green Workforce and Education 2030 goal.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The World Youth Congress series began as the Millennium Young People&#8217;s Congress in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> in 1999 under the chairmanship of Senator Daniel K.
