Morton will recommend the appointment of <strong>Louise Pagotto<\/strong>, vice-chancellor of academic affairs, to the Board of Regents as interim chancellor of <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>&#8217;s second largest campus. <\/p>\n<p>Richards will retire on December 1, 2016 from <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> and in the interim before his retirement, Morton has tasked Richards with developing a transition plan for the international education programs for the entire <a href=\"http:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Community Colleges<\/a> system. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Morton-Message.pdf\">Download John Morton&#8217;s letter (<small><abbr>PDF<\/abbr><\/small>)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;Chancellor Richards&#8217; greatest contribution has been his ability to create a model international education program at <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> that both attracts hundreds of international students to come to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and creates opportunities for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> community college students to study abroad,&rdquo; said Morton. <\/p>\n<p>At 10 percent, <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> has the highest percentage of foreign students of the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> ten campuses, 776 out of 7,815 students in fall 2015. <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo has the second highest percentage at seven percent. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I value Leon Richards as a partner and a friend for the many years we have worked together and will be focusing the months prior to his retirement on working with him to ensure that the international education legacy he has built will continue to grow and thrive,&rdquo; said Morton, adding that Richards has been a leader in helping to create the robust system of community colleges in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> that exists today. <\/p>\n<p>Richards has over 40 years of service at <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>. In an email sent this afternoon to the campus community, Richards expressed his appreciation. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Richards-Message.pdf\">Download Leon Richards&#8217; letter (<span class=\"small\"><abbr>PDF<\/abbr><\/span>)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;I believe <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> has competent and caring administrators, faculty, staff and students, I want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for all that you do to make <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> and its heritage great,&rdquo; said Richards. &ldquo;We as a campus and as a family need to continue to move forward with renewed energy and focus.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>Richards message also included a list of notable accomplishments at <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> including increasing enrollment, graduation rates, scholarship and grant money and the transfer rate to four-year colleges to name a few. <\/p>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> is <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>&#8217;s largest community college and home to the <a href=\"http:\/\/culinary.kapiolani.hawaii.edu\/\">Culinary Institute of the Pacific<\/a>.
