Ashley Maynard<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Ashley Maynard<\/strong><\/a>, professor and chair of the psychology<\/a> department in the College of Social Sciences<\/a> at the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa, has been named chair of the Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology<\/a>. In this capacity, Maynard will lead COGDOP<\/abbr> in the development and promotion of discussions regarding education, training and research in the field of psychology.<\/p>\n

“COGDOP<\/abbr> is an amazing non-partisan organization and the best example of collegiality that can be found in the field of psychology. A valued resource to the field at large, COGDOP<\/abbr> provides a forum for members to come together to share ideas, learn about state-of-the-art trends in psychology and support professional development,” said Maynard. “This shared knowledge of what is happening in the field on a national level ensures that we are in touch with the latest advances in hiring, education, training and in the overall direction that the field is moving toward. It is an honor to be appointed as COGDOP<\/abbr> chair by my peers and I look forward to serving the organization and the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a>, in this capacity.” <\/p>\n

More about Ashley Maynard <\/h2>\n

Maynard received her PhD<\/abbr> in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles and did two years of postdoctoral study in anthropology and cultural psychology in the Department of Neuropsychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences (now called the Semel Institute) at UCLA<\/abbr>. Her primary research interest has been the impacts of cultural change at the macro-level, such as economic and sociodemographic shifts, on socialization and cognition in childhood. She also studies the development of teaching in childhood and sibling interactions, and has worked with her students in Mexico, Costa Rica, Switzerland and Hawaiʻi<\/span>.<\/p>\n

She has won national awards for her research, including the James McKeen Cattell Award from the New York Academy of Sciences and the APA<\/abbr> Division 7 (developmental psychology) Dissertation Award. In addition to publishing many articles on culture and human development in peer-reviewed journals, she has developed two film series for Pearson Education as their international psychology video series editor and subject matter expert in culture and human development. She is currently writing her fourth book and revising the second (to appear in 2016).<\/p>\n

In 2015, Maynard was appointed to a three-year term on the 32-member American Psychological Association Commission on Accreditation. She was nominated by colleagues from the national Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology to represent the breadth of knowledge in the discipline of psychology.<\/p>\n

COGDOP<\/abbr> is a national organization whose membership is comprised of individuals from approximately 300 of the nation’s graduate psychology programs. It represents the voice of academic psychologists regarding research and practice to a number of prestigious groups, including the Association for Psychological Science and the American Psychological Association’s Commission on Accreditation .<\/p>\n
