The festival is free to the public and open to all ages. All art supplies are provided.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We invite you to explore your creative side! This festival has an open and adventurous &lsquo;learn-by-doing&rsquo; vibe,&rdquo; said festival chair and creator Ben Moffat. &ldquo;We provide free art supplies and guidance, so you and your family can play! And, you can take home whatever you create.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Windward <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> art professors, instructors and their students will be there (with supplies provided) to assist those who want to express their creativity in a variety of ways\u2014from painting, drawing and sculpting to moving, acting or making music, prints, poetry and prose. <\/p>\n<p>A sampling of creative activities include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clay sculpture with Bryce Meyers<\/li>\n<li>Woodcarving with Jordan Souza<\/li>\n<li>Ceramics demonstrations with Paul Nash<\/li>\n<li>Boomwhackers music making workshop with Tara Severns<\/li>\n<li>Piano open lab<\/li>\n<li>Camera obscura with Mark Hamasaki<\/li>\n<li>Open drawing studio with Norm Graffam (draw or have your portrait drawn)<\/li>\n<li>Stage combat workshop with Nick Logue<\/li>\n<li>Improvisation workshop with Taurie Kinoshita<\/li>\n<li>Screenwriting and life writing workshops with Desiree Poteet<\/li>\n<li>Poetry workshop with Susan St. John<\/li>\n<li>T-shirt printing (bring a t-shirt or purchase one at the festival)<\/li>\n<li>Jewelry making with Jane Uyetake and Geri Kabei<\/li>\n<li>Blue Zones Project art spinners (pedal a bike to spin the paint)<\/li>\n<li>Hawaiian arts and crafts with Makanani Sala, Tuti Kanahele and others<\/li>\n<li>Literature performance of by Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> students with Instructor Linda Shkreli<\/li>\n<li>Roaming performers, vignettes from Shakespeare and much more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>New at Palik&#363; Arts Festival: Hale <span aria-label=\"Ao\">A&#699;o<\/span> (Hawaiian Studies Building)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> Hawaiian studies and arts, kumu (instructors) and haum&#257;na (students) will share lauhala weaving, kapa beating demos, bamboo stamping, <span aria-label=\"moolelo\">mo&#699;olelo<\/span>, music, hula workshops and lei making.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Palik&#363; Theatre<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Enjoy two free performances of a world premiere play <em>Tales of <span aria-label=\"Koolaupoko\">Ko&#699;olaupoko<\/span><\/em> for the keiki, based on Hawaiian folk tales written and directed by Moses Goods and performed by Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> Theatre 260 students and alumni at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.windward.hawaii.edu\/paliku\/\">Palik&#363; Theatre<\/a>. Performances are at 11 <abbr>a.m.<\/abbr> and 2 <abbr>p.m.<\/abbr> (40 minutes). Then at 3 <\/abbr>p.m.<\/abbr>, bring an instrument and join in for a musical kanikapila with <span aria-label=\"Kaala\">Ka&#699;ala<\/span> Carmack.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gallery <span aria-label=\"Iolani\">&#699;Iolani<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Free at <a href=\"http:\/\/gallery.windward.hawaii.edu\/\">Gallery <span aria-label=\"Iolani\">&#699;Iolani<\/span><\/a>, a new exhibit will feature fine art glass by <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Glass Artists from 10 <abbr>a.m.<\/abbr> to 4 <abbr>p.m.<\/abbr><\/p>\n<p><strong>Imaginarium<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/aerospace.wcc.hawaii.edu\/imaginarium.html\">H&#333;k&#363;lani Imaginarium<\/a> offers a family-friendly fulldome show <em>Secrets of the Dragon<\/em> (1 and 1:30 <abbr>p.m.<\/abbr>) with a nominal fee of $3 (runs 11 minutes). Then, at 3 <abbr>p.m.<\/abbr> there will be a special presentation of Pink Floyd&#8217;s <em>The Dark Side of the Moon<\/em>, a classic rock music and digital graphics extravaganza for special fee of $5 (43 minutes; not for children under age 8).<\/p>\n<p><strong>&ldquo;Language Arts Oasis&rdquo; at Hale Manaleo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A first at Palik&#363; Arts Festival: Poetry reading at 2 <abbr>p.m.<\/abbr> featuring four Kundiman Fellows Janine Oshiro, Rajiv Mohabir Henry Leung and William Giles.
