{"id":40632,"date":"2015-11-17T08:54:40","date_gmt":"2015-11-17T18:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=40632"},"modified":"2021-06-18T09:40:29","modified_gmt":"2021-06-18T19:40:29","slug":"project-lead-the-way-hawaii-state-conference-held-at-uh-west-oahu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2015\/11\/17\/project-lead-the-way-hawaii-state-conference-held-at-uh-west-oahu\/","title":{"rendered":"Project Lead the Way <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span> State Conference to be held at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/west-oahu.jpg\" alt=\"U H West Oahu campus\" width=\"620\" height=\"166\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9075\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/west-oahu.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/west-oahu-260x69.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhwo.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8211;West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span><\/a> will host the first ever <a href=\"https:\/\/pltwpacific.wordpress.com\/state-conference\/\">Project Lead the Way (<abbr>PLTW<\/abbr>) <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Conference<\/a> on Saturday, November 21 to support <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> schools implementing <abbr>PLTW<\/abbr> science, technology, engineering and math (<abbr>STEM<\/abbr>) programs in K&#8211;12 classrooms. <abbr>PLTW<\/abbr> is the nation&#8217;s leading provider of K&#8211;12 <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> programs with more than 8,000 elementary, middle and high schools implementing the curriculum across 50 states.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers, administrators and community partners interested in learning more about <abbr>PLTW<\/abbr> programs, grant and partnership opportunities are encouraged to attend the conference.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> System President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong> will kick off the day&#8217;s events and introduce conference keynote speaker Vince Bertram, president and <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> of <abbr>PLTW<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>Conference sessions will cover <abbr>PLTW<\/abbr> programs including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Launch (K&#8211;5)&#8212;Students use structured approaches for problem solving and employ critical thinking<\/li>\n<li>Gateway (6&#8211;8)&#8212;Engineering, biomedical and computer science curriculum that is flexible for middle school students<\/li>\n<li>Engineering (9&#8211;12)&#8212;Engineering, science, math and technology curriculum for solving complex, real-world problems<\/li>\n<li>Biomedical Science (9&#8211;12)&#8212;Case-based scenario biomedical science curriculum<\/li>\n<li>Computer Science (9&#8211;12)&#8212;Problem-based computer science curriculum that builds on <abbr>PLTW<\/abbr> elementary and middle school programs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, community partners Chevron <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usafunds.org\/Pages\/default.aspx\"><abbr>USA<\/abbr>Funds<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelearningcoalition.org\/\">The Learning Coalition<\/a> will present information about grant opportunities and place-based resources.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> is <abbr>PLTW<\/abbr>&#8217;s first affiliate partner in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and provides ongoing support for local schools implementing <abbr>PLTW<\/abbr> curriculum. The university hosted <abbr>PLTW<\/abbr>&#8217;s required core training programs for teacher instructors this summer, training previously offered only on the U.S. mainland.<\/p>\n<h2>Event details<\/h2>\n<p>The <abbr>PLTW<\/abbr> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Conference is on Saturday, November 21, 8 a.m.&#8211;1 p.m. at the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> campus in various locations.<\/p>\n<p>For a full schedule of conference events or to register online, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/pltwpacific.wordpress.com\/state-conference\/\"><abbr>PLTW<\/abbr> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Conference website<\/a>.
