The award is the highest level of certification established by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usgbc.org\/\">U.S. Green Building Council<\/a> and verified by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gbci.org\/homepage.aspx\">Green Building Certification Institute<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Center for Microbial Oceanography Research and Education\">C-MORE<\/abbr> Hale became the first research laboratory building in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8212;and only the eighth construction project in the state&#8212;to receive the highest level of <abbr title=\"Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design\">LEED<\/abbr> certification.
