To celebrate Earth Day, the Hawaiʻi<\/span> Music Institute<\/a> at Windward Community College<\/a> will host Aloha ʻĀina<\/span>: A Kanikapila for Earth Day on April 22, 2–5 p.m. in the new Hale Aʻo<\/span> Hawaiian Studies music hālau designed with exceptional acoustics and houses the college’s newly acquired Steinway piano.<\/p>\n

Students, faculty, staff and the community are invited to bring an instrument and their voice and hula, to the new facility to enjoy and promote mālamalama ke Koʻolaupoko<\/span> through music. Refreshments will be provided.<\/p>\n

Guest speakers and musicians include Teresa Bright, Kaʻala<\/span> Carmack<\/strong>, Mahealani Cypher from Koʻolaupoko<\/span> Hawaiian Civic Club<\/a> and more.<\/p>\n

“We want to celebrate the ʻĀina<\/span> with music, in a very informal and traditional style, kanikapila-style,” said Carmack, music instructor and Hawaiʻi<\/span> Music Institute director. “We will also talk just a little bit about what’s important for sustainability on our Windward side and how it can impact the rest of the island and even beyond.”<\/p>\n
