Wanting to help others and not let good food go to waste <strong>Eric Hansen<\/strong>, the program&#8217;s coordinator, arranged a donation of 29 pounds of produce to M&#257;lama <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span>&#8217;s Village Harvest program via the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaiifoodbank.org\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Food Bank<\/a>\u2013<span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Branch.<\/p>\n<p>The Village Harvest Project partners with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.malamakauai.org\/mk\/programs-3\/kauai-school-gardens\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> School Garden Network<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½MG\/Kauai\/index.asp\"><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Master Gardening Program<\/a> headquartered at <abbr>ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½<\/abbr> M&#257;noa&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/site\/\">College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I couldn&#8217;t find a better way to not waste food and feed people,&rdquo; said Hansen. &ldquo;A good farmer does not waste resources. Good farmers are community oriented\u2014after all, farming is about feeding people,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This gift of grown food speaks exactly to <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>&#8217;s mission of serving the community,&rdquo; said <strong>Helen Cox<\/strong>, <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> chancellor. &ldquo;And we are thrilled to have GoFarm <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> as it fulfills our goal of promoting farming and farmers who are working to build the Garden Island as a sustainable living community,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<h2>More about GoFarm <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gofarmhawaii.org\/\">GoFarm <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><\/a> commercial farmer training programs, held at <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/\">Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a>, supports those who are interested in becoming production farmers. The program teaches students essential technical and business fundamentals of successful farming.<\/p>\n<p>With <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> importing approximately 85 percent of its food, the program recognizes the need to strengthen food security across the state.
