Bernard Ray Hawke<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½<\/abbr> community is saddened by the news of the passing of Bernard Ray “B. Ray” Hawke of the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology<\/a> at the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A highly regarded lunar scientist, the bulk of Hawke’s research focused specifically on collecting measurements of color at high resolution of small spots on the Moon. These studies contributed greatly to scientist’s understanding of the geological evolution of the lunar crust.<\/p>\n

He died on January 24 at Straub Hospital at age 68.<\/p>\n

Hawke joined the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> in 1977 as a planetary geologist and would later become part of the Hawaiʻi<\/span> Institute of Geophysics and Planetology<\/a>. He collaborated with many colleagues in Hawaiʻi<\/span> and around the world, sharing his knowledge and insight.<\/p>\n
