We don&#8217;t have the companies like Google and IBM at our back door or even our back lawn to go to and have them help us win business. <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> is really important because it enables us to connect to people around the world on a different level.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30370\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30370\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/elele.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"309\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/elele.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/elele-260x200.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30370\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> President David Lassner presented with the <span aria-label=\"Elele\">&#699;Elele<\/span> Organization of the Year Award.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For these accomplishments, the industry has recognized the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> with the first <span aria-label=\"Elele\">&#699;Elele<\/span> Organization of the Year Award. The award from Meet <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8212;a collaboration of the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> 糖心Vlog官方ors and Convention Bureau and the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Convention Center&#8212;was presented to <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I hope we can continue the great partnership and bring more meetings to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8212;more opportunities for <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> faculty staff, students, members of our community, more economic activity and perhaps more spin offs, as we bring these people in and they see what can be done in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>,&rdquo; Lassner said.<\/p>\n<p>Using their lifetime of professional relationships, <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> <span aria-label=\"elele\">&#699;elele<\/span> have worked in cooperation with the tourism industry to attract more than four dozen important meetings and conventions to the state. <\/p>\n<p>Meet <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> says six <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> faculty members each have already brought in more than $40 million in convention business.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jeff Akaka<\/strong>, John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wayne Shiroma<\/strong>, College of Engineering<\/li>\n<li><strong>Magdy Iskander<\/strong>, College of Engineering<\/li>\n<li><strong>Loren Yamamoto<\/strong>, John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/li>\n<li><strong>David Karl<\/strong>, School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology<\/li>\n<li><strong>David Sanders<\/strong>, Institute for Astronomy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ee.hawaii.edu\/index.php\">Department Electrical Engineering<\/a> Chair Wayne Shiroma was instrumental in bringing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieee.org\/index.html\">Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers<\/a>, Microwave Theory and Techniques Symposium to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> in 2007. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As someone that was brought up in the islands I felt that I wanted to personally give back,&rdquo; said Shiroma. &ldquo;Our conference in 2007 brought in $34 million in visitor spending and that to me was something that I felt that I could tangibly contribute to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8217;s economy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Based on the success of the 2007 program, the engineering symposium has been rebooked for 2017. Together, these conferences represent about $60 million in visitor spending.
