Burns School of Medicine<\/a> and <strong>Noreen Mokuau<\/strong>, dean of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/sswork\/welcome.html\">Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The $15.4 million, five-year renewal comes on the heels of a successful foundation laid in the first four years of the <a href=\"http:\/\/rmatrix.jabsom.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>RCMI<\/abbr> Multidisciplinary and Translational Research Infrastructure Expansion<\/a> (<abbr>RMATRIX<\/abbr>) grant, a centerpiece of how investigators across <abbr>ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½<\/abbr> M&#257;noa are focusing health research on an essential theme: How to make the lives of people in the state&#8217;s multi-ethnic population better.<\/p>\n<p>Echoing one research goal, <strong>Kathryn Braun<\/strong>, director of the community-based research core of the project, asks, &ldquo;What programs and treatments are needed to improve the health of all of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8217;s people?&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<abbr>RMATRIX<\/abbr>&#8211;<abbr title=\"two\">II<\/abbr> continues <span aria-label=\"hookahua\">ho&#699;okahua<\/span> (to lay a foundation) for leading-edge research that promotes a healthier <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>,&rdquo; said Mokuau.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.hawaii.edu\/uhmednow\/2014\/10\/08\/long-lives-short-lives-why-are-there-stark-differences-among-hawaii%CA%BBs-people\/\">A John A.
