The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span>’s multidisciplinary research into why some of the state’s residents live the longest while others struggle to get beyond their fifties will continue under grant principal investigators Jerris Hedges<\/strong>, dean of the John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> and Noreen Mokuau<\/strong>, dean of the Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The $15.4 million, five-year renewal comes on the heels of a successful foundation laid in the first four years of the RCMI<\/abbr> Multidisciplinary and Translational Research Infrastructure Expansion<\/a> (RMATRIX<\/abbr>) grant, a centerpiece of how investigators across ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½<\/abbr> Mānoa are focusing health research on an essential theme: How to make the lives of people in the state’s multi-ethnic population better.<\/p>\n

Echoing one research goal, Kathryn Braun<\/strong>, director of the community-based research core of the project, asks, “What programs and treatments are needed to improve the health of all of Hawaiʻi<\/span>’s people?”<\/p>\n

“RMATRIX<\/abbr>–II<\/abbr> continues hoʻokahua<\/span> (to lay a foundation) for leading-edge research that promotes a healthier Hawaiʻi<\/span>,” said Mokuau.<\/p>\n
