Leeward Community College Theatre<\/a> presents The Liliʻu<\/span> Project<\/a>, a journey into the heart and mind of Lydia Kamakaʻeha<\/span> Pākī, the woman who would become Liliʻuokalani<\/span>, explored primarily through the lens of her music and poetry.<\/p>\n

The last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi<\/span>, was a gifted and prolific composer, leaving behind a musical legacy that is remarkably progressive and profoundly innovative. Her songs continue to inspire, influence and enlighten, while offering insight into her life as an artist, woman and leader.<\/p>\n

The Liliʻu<\/span> Project’s first installation is expressed in a live performance of ten compositions, nine of them by Liliʻu<\/span>. Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winning vocalist Starr Kalahiki<\/a> is backed by nine musicians, and choir members from Leeward Community College<\/a> and University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> West Oʻahu<\/span><\/a> Chorus.<\/p>\n

The Leeward Community College Theatre<\/a> presents The Liliʻu<\/span> Project on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The performance represents a collaborative effort presented by Hawaiʻi<\/span> Artist’s Initiative, in cooperation with musicians, artists and scholars from our community and Leeward Community College Theatre.<\/p>\n
