  {"id":234076,"date":"2026-05-12T15:33:39","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T01:33:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=234076"},"modified":"2026-05-12T15:33:39","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T01:33:39","slug":"honolulu-cc-fashion-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2026\/05\/12\/honolulu-cc-fashion-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr> Fashion students shine at annual runway showcase"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-12.jpg\" alt=\"Models on the runway\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-234185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-12.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-12-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-12-130x73.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/>Honolulu Community College&#8217;s Fashion Technology Program transformed Capitol Modern Museum into a runway of creativity and innovation during its annual student fashion show, \u201cA Night at the Museum,\u201d on May 7.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-9-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"Model on the runway\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-234182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-9-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-9-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-9.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/>The live showcase featured original collections designed by students in the program, with the evening centered around the senior collections of seven graduating designers.<\/p>\n<p>Family members, alumni, faculty, community supporters and fashion industry professionals filled the venue to celebrate the students&#8217; work and artistic vision.<\/p>\n<p>The annual show highlighted the range of skills students develop through the only technical fashion program in Honolulu offering comprehensive training in areas such as clothing construction, industrial sewing, pattern making, textile art, computerized grading and fashion design.<\/p>\n<h2>Hands-on experience sparks student designers<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-3-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"Model on the runway\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-234175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-3-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-3-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/honolulu-fashion-2026-3.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/>Students receive both classroom instruction and hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment and software to prepare for careers in fashion and apparel production.<\/p>\n<p>For senior designer Jade <span lang=\"haw\">W\u0101\u02bbilimoku<\/span> Herrera, the runway show was deeply personal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really felt the need to, you know, just put myself out there, show I exist, hope other people resonate with me,\u201d Herrera said. \u201cI just followed what I felt called to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Herrera also reflected on the support she received throughout the program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m so incredibly grateful for all of the seniors who showed today, all of my instructors,\u201d she said. \u201cI really can&#8217;t express how much I&#8217;m grateful for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senior designer Lacie Kau described the experience as both emotional and rewarding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt felt like a relief from my stress,\u201d Kau said. \u201cLike my success has come true. Like the show time finally came and it&#8217;s like you&#8217;re seeing everything. All my dreams and all my hard work put into it is such a blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Silver Ueno, seeing months of preparation come to life on the runway was surreal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s been such a long time coming that once it actually happened, it was like, oh, this is happening,\u201d Ueno said. \u201cBut no, it was amazing. I really appreciated all the crowd support.
