Broadbent Foundation<\/a> recently presented <a href=\"http:\/\/kauai.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Community College<\/a> with a gift to fund scholarships for students enrolled in college through the <a href=\"http:\/\/info.kauaicc.hawaii.edu\/resources\/lc\/\"><span aria-label=\"Waialeale\">Wai&#699;ale&#699;ale<\/span> Project<\/a>. Representing their family, Sam Pratt and Melinda Walker presented the college with the gift.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/article.php?aId=6259\">More about Edward Henry Walton Broadbent<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Waialeale\">Wai&#699;ale&#699;ale<\/span> appreciates the generosity of the <abbr>E.H.W<\/abbr>. Broadbent Foundation,&rdquo; said <strong>Kimo Perry<\/strong>, coordinator of the <span aria-label=\"Waialeale\">Wai&#699;ale&#699;ale<\/span> Project. &ldquo;Each contribution that we receive helps students attend college who might not otherwise have the opportunity.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>He added, &ldquo;It&#8217;s especially gratifying to know that our program is being supported by local organizations who recognize the importance to our community of higher education.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>VIDEO: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2012\/10\/29\/unlikely-students-in-college-thanks-to-waialeale\/\">Students in college thanks to <span aria-label=\"Waialeale\">Wai&#699;ale&#699;ale<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <abbr>E.H.W<\/abbr>. Broadbent scholarships will be available for the fall 2014 semester to students enrolling in the project&#8217;s fifth cohort of students. Funding will support the full cost of tuition, books and fees for students to study full-time in a program of their choice. The <span aria-label=\"Waialeale\">Wai&#699;ale&#699;ale<\/span> Project began with a vision of supporting individuals who did not consider college as a viable life option.<\/p>\n<p>According to Perry, the performance level of <span aria-label=\"Waialeale\">Wai&#699;ale&#699;ale<\/span> students is on par with other students and their initial persistence rate is actually higher.
