Her hula <span aria-label=\"auana\">&#699;auana<\/span> honored Queen <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span>, dancing to the classic mele <em><span aria-label=\"Kaanoi\">Ka&#699;ano&#699;i<\/span><\/em>, which likens the beloved <span aria-label=\"alii\">ali&#699;i<\/span> (royal) to a cherished blossom. Pavao also received the Hawaiian Language Award, recognizing her excellence in <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> (Hawaiian language).<\/p>\n<p>She competed against 12 other soloists during a night filled with breathtaking performances. (Photo credit: Merrie Monarch Festival\/Bruce Omori and Tracey Niimi)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>More members of the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> community are taking the spotlight on the Edith <span aria-label=\"Kanakaole\">Kanaka&#699;ole<\/span> Stadium stage and at the judges\u2019 table.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> graduate Emalia Pomaialoha <span aria-label=\"KeleihanupikakeiaPaoaehulaleaikalaninuiakea\">Keleihanup&#299;kakei&#257;P&#257;&#699;oaehulale&#699;aikalaninui&#257;kea<\/span> Dalire also competed in the solo division and earned second runner-up honors, representing Keolalaulani H&#257;lau <span aria-label=\"Olapa\">&#699;&#332;lapa<\/span> O Laka. Dancing under the direction of her mother, Dalire carried forward a rich hula legacy. Kumu hula Noenoelani Zuttermeister, who teaches hula and chant at <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa, brings years of experience to her judging role having participated since the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow judge Tracie <span aria-label=\"Kaonohilani\">Ka&#699;&#333;nohilani<\/span> Farias Lopes, an instructor in theatre and dance, was Miss Aloha Hula in 1994. Festival President Aunty Luana Kawelu and her daughter, Kathy Kawelu&#8212;an associate professor of anthropology at <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo&#8212;work year-round to plan and prepare for Merrie Monarch, ensuring the tradition continues to thrive for future generations.<\/p>\n<p>The festival continues with 20 h\u0101lau competing in the group division\u2014hula kahiko (ancient dance) on April 25 and hula <span aria-label=\"auana\">&#699;auana<\/span> (modern dance) on April 26.
