Jazz singer Charmaine Clamor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Leeward Community College Theatre<\/a> presents Filipino-American recording artist Charmaine Clamor<\/a> with special guest Abe Lagrimas, Jr<\/abbr>.<\/a> for a one-night-only homecoming concert<\/a> on Friday, October 11, 8 p.m.<\/p>\n

Celebrated by The New York Times<\/a><\/em> as “a gifted vocalist” and by The Los Angeles Times<\/a><\/em> as “one of the important and original new jazz singers of the decade,” Filipino-American recording artist Clamor introduced jazzipino<\/em> to the world, a new music style blending American jazz with music from her home country. Clamor’s bold vision and sublime vocal tenderness solidified her role as her birth country’s most celebrated international musical ambassador. Clamor’s artistry was featured on BBC<\/a><\/abbr>’s “The World” and NPR<\/a><\/abbr>’s “Weekend Edition,” which described her music as “the perfect bridge of two cultures.” Clamor has been credited with introducing authentic Filipino musical culture to mainstream listeners.<\/p>\n

Special guest Lagrimas is a versatile multi-instrumentalist and composer raised in Waipahu. Predominantly known as a drummer, Lagrimas is highly proficient on the vibraphone and the ukulele and continues to perform throughout the world on all three instruments. While still in high school, Lagrimas received endorsement deals from major drum manufacturers (Paiste Cymbals<\/a> and Vic Firth Drumsticks<\/a>) and earned a reputation as one of Hawaiʻi<\/span>’s elite musicians. His latest album entitled Solo Ukulele: The King of Pop<\/a><\/em>, plays tribute to Michael Jackson and showcases solo ukulele arrangements of Jackson’s music. The album was recognized by the Hawaiʻi<\/span> Academy of Recording Arts in the 2011.<\/p>\n
