  {"id":189239,"date":"2023-12-21T16:01:17","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T02:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=189239"},"modified":"2023-12-21T16:01:17","modified_gmt":"2023-12-22T02:01:17","slug":"p-20-annual-report-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2023\/12\/21\/p-20-annual-report-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"$20<abbr>M<\/abbr> grant, grad goals part of Hawai\u02bbi P\u201320 successes in 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/system-p-20-annual-report.jpg\" alt=\"people with caps and gowns from graduation\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-189240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/system-p-20-annual-report.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/system-p-20-annual-report-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/system-p-20-annual-report-130x73.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The development of &ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Graduates for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8216;s Future,&rdquo; earning a $20 million federal grant to boost early education efforts and the expansion of work-based learning across the state are a few of the highlights in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiip20.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/2023-P-20-Annual_Report_F2.pdf\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> P&#8211;20 Partnerships for Education (P&#8211;20) 2023 Annual Report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiip20.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> P&#8211;20<\/a> is a statewide partnership led by the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> System, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Executive Office on Early Learning and the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Department of Education that works to strengthen the education pipeline from early childhood through postsecondary education and training.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiip20.org\/resources\/hawaii-attainment-goal\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Graduates for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8216;s Future<\/a> is a new goal focused on educational progress that leads to students being able to find good jobs in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>, with a concerted effort to align educational programs with workforce needs and economic development. This commitment is displayed both in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/strategic-plan\/\"><abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½<\/abbr>\u2019s newly adopted Strategic Plan<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/boe.hawaii.gov\/policies\/Pages\/Strategic-Plan.aspx\">State of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Board of Education\u2019s Strategic Plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2023, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> P&#8211;20 was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2023\/01\/10\/Hawaii-p20-exec-office-on-early-learning-awarded-grant\/\">awarded a nearly $20 million federal grant<\/a> to strengthen the early childhood system by building upon existing federal, state, and local early learning and care investments. This grant will support coordination and collaboration among the state\u2019s existing programs, improve program quality, expand access, invest in workforce and maximize parental engagement in the early childhood mixed delivery system.<\/p>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> P&#8211;20 has provided resources and support for several work-based learning intermediary organizations to expand work-based learning. Each regional intermediary organization increased student participation in job shadowing, mock interviews and internship opportunities. <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> P&#8211;20 aims to expand the program to more schools.<\/p>\n<h2>Other highlights:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Stay at Home, Grow Your Own Teacher Pathway pilot project was developed to address one of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>\u2019s biggest challenges: high teacher vacancy rates especially in the most rural schools, and schools with the highest poverty rates among students.<\/li>\n<li>There is promising college enrollment data for GEAR UP <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and Soar Higher schools. Between 2020 and 2022, college enrollment at schools with transition support programs showed a 3.2&#37; increase in college enrollment compared to a 0.4&#37; decrease at high schools without them.<\/li>\n<li>In partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½<\/abbr> Community Colleges<\/a>, Ke Ala <span aria-label=\"Naauao\">Na&#699;auao<\/span> mentors implemented its first onboarding campaign, Finish in a Flash.
