Lyon Arboretum and <abbr>PEPP<\/abbr> set up a table with educational materials and activities, while Honolulu Beerworks debuted its new grape sour ale called H\u0101h\u0101-loha, named for the Cyanea family of endemic plants. Education Manager Raedelle Van Fossen and Horticulture Manager Tim Kroessig represented the arboretum.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our mission at Lyon is to inspire and cultivate the conservation of tropical plant biodiversity, and connect it to the culture of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> through education and research. We were gratified by the community\u2019s enthusiasm for learning and conservation,&rdquo; Van Fossen said. &ldquo;We appreciate the collaboration with <abbr>PEPP<\/abbr> and Honolulu Beerworks. It\u2019s everyone\u2019s spirit that fuels the seeds of change, ensuring a brighter future for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8216;s precious endemic plants.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The H\u0101h\u0101-loha beer label showcased the artwork of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2023\/02\/27\/the-art-of-science-saxony-charlot\/\">Saxony Charlot<\/a>, a <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo student and former Lyon Arboretum summer intern. Proceeds of the sales will support the work of Lyon Arboretum and <abbr>PEPP<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<h2>Cultivating climate education: Lyon\u2019s green vision<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/manoa-lyon-arboretum-pints-for-plants-kroessig-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"person standing at a table next to dozens of plants\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-188627\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/manoa-lyon-arboretum-pints-for-plants-kroessig-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/manoa-lyon-arboretum-pints-for-plants-kroessig-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/manoa-lyon-arboretum-pints-for-plants-kroessig.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;E ola n\u0101 mea ulu o <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8212;Thrive the growing things of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&rdquo; is led by Van Fossen, who was selected to participate in a peer learning group with the U.S. Botanic Garden&#8217;s Plants and Climate Change Education (<abbr>PLACCE<\/abbr>) program. With a cohort of five other botanic gardens and arboreta, the project aims to create and develop plant-centered climate change education activities, curricula and models that can be shared across the community.<\/p>\n<p>Lyon began implementation of its <abbr>PLACCE<\/abbr> and recently collaborated with the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources<\/a> Urban Garden Center (<abbr>UGC<\/abbr>), and hosted a community class, &ldquo;Native Plant Gardens Matter,&rdquo; taught by Tina Lau, junior extension agent at <abbr>UGC<\/abbr>, and Chai Blair-Stahn, a master gardener and lecturer at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward Community College<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> collaboration was with the <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/isr\/\">Institute for Sustainability and Resilience<\/a> (<abbr>ISR<\/abbr>). Working with Ketty Loeb, an <abbr>ISR<\/abbr> faculty member, Lyon sponsored the second event in <abbr>ISR<\/abbr>\u2019s sustainability film series, which shined a light on food sustainability and climate change.
