University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Hilo softball<\/a> player Jayda Favela and baseball<\/a> player Vance Oshiro earned KTA<\/abbr> Super Stores Superstars of the Week awards for April 19–May 2.<\/p>\n

Favela, a sophomore, closed the 2023 season by batting 9 for 17 (.529) in the Vulcans’ last four games against Chaminade University and Hawai\u02bbi Pacific University (HPU<\/abbr>). She scored four runs with four RBI<\/abbr> while recording two putouts and 15 assists (1.000 fielding) at shortstop. Favela helped drive in the game-tying run in a 7-6 extra-inning win over Chaminade on April 22 before knocking in the game-winning run in a 3-1 victory over HPU<\/abbr> on April 23.<\/p>\n

Oshiro, a sophomore second baseman, closed ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½<\/abbr> Hilo\u2019s final eight games batting .333 with three RBI<\/abbr> and four runs scored. He also turned two double plays in recording 10 putouts and 15 assists (.926 fielding). Oshiro brought in the winning run on a four-pitch bases-loaded walk against HPU<\/abbr> on April 21.<\/p>\n

The KTA<\/abbr> Superstars award<\/a> names one male and one female Vulcans student-athlete each week, highlighting their accomplishments from the prior week.<\/p>\n
