Virginia Hinshaw will end her tenure as chancellor of the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at M\u0101noa<\/a> campus in June 2012 and take a sabbatical before returning to teaching.<\/p>\n

The renowned microbiologist, whose work over the past 25 years has contributed to the understanding of the influenza virus and new approaches to vaccines, will make her home at the John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She discussed her plans and reflected on her accomplishments as chancellor of the university\u2019s flagship campus in a recent issue of Pacific Business News<\/em><\/a> (subscription required).<\/p>\n

In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Hawaii News Now<\/em> also sat down with Hinshaw<\/a> to talk to her about what it means to be a breast cancer survivor.<\/p>\n
