The platform is being established with a $500,000 National Science Foundation grant.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;KoaStore will help support and power <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> investigators\u2019 research through its high-performance, large size and fast connection to the rest of the world. Further, KoaStore will help enable analysis of data at a scale not previously possible on the Mana high performance computing cluster, allowing larger simulations and discovery,&rdquo; said <strong>Sean Cleveland<\/strong>, principal investigator and associate director of cyberinfrastructure at <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> <a href=\"https:\/\/datascience.hawaii.edu\/\">Information Technology Services<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>KoaStore will be integrated into the <a href=\"https:\/\/datascience.hawaii.edu\/about-mana\/\"><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> high performance computing cluster Mana<\/a> and focus on supporting research in the areas of astronomy, atmospheric science, climate science, microbiome and computer and data science.<\/p>\n<h2>Serving national and local research<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_167838\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-167838\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/system-epscor-cyberinfrastructure-2.jpg\" alt=\"disk storage array\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-full wp-image-167838\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/system-epscor-cyberinfrastructure-2.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/system-epscor-cyberinfrastructure-2-130x130.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-167838\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A disk storage array<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The new platform will also serve the national research community through partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/osg-htc.org\/services\/osdf.html\">Open Science Data Federation<\/a>, leveraging existing <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>, Pacific region and national high-speed research networks. This partnership federates national computing resources to offer high-speed storage and shorter wait-times on shared compute resources for <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> researchers.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The public datasets hosted on KoaStore will make it possible for researchers in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>, across the nation and around the world to use astronomy data produced by the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifa.hawaii.edu\/\">Institute for Astronomy<\/a> (<abbr>IfA<\/abbr>),&rdquo; said <strong>Curt Dodds<\/strong>, <abbr title=\"information technology\">IT<\/abbr> manager at <abbr>IfA<\/abbr> and KoaStore co-investigator. &ldquo;We plan to share data from cosmological simulations, a dynamic database of the entire night sky, and machine learning models of the Sun&#8217;s atmosphere and distant galaxies.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>Data from the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/eltevo\/StePS\">Stereographically Projected Cosmological Simulations<\/a>, also known as StePS, a novel astrophysics simulation method, are an example of public datasets available for download through KoaStore.<\/p>\n<p>KoaStore will be integrated with the <abbr title=\"National Science Foundation\">NSF<\/abbr> <a href=\"https:\/\/jetstream-cloud.org\/\">Jetstream2<\/a> cloud computing infrastructure and allow researchers to easily span cloud computing environments to support new deep learning and artificial intelligence workflows, visualization and applications.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the platform will aid hands-on training in data and computational science for the next generation of researchers and data scientists through a partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/datascience.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Data Science Institute<\/a> and local community to provide workshops and classroom access.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new data-storage platform will accelerate research and discoveries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":16,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[30],"tags":[1176,521,416,152,947],"class_list":["post-167834","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-research","tag-data-science","tag-epscor","tag-information-technology","tag-information-technology-services","tag-uh-system","entry","has-media"],"aioseo_notices":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/167834","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/16"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=167834"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/167834\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":167839,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/167834\/revisions\/167839"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=167834"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=167834"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=167834"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
