Each October marks Honolulu Pride Month on Oʻahu,<\/span> one of Hawaiʻi\u2019s<\/span> largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, queer+ (LGBTQ<\/abbr>+) celebrations. The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> is observing the month-long commemoration with an array of events sponsored by the 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Mānoa LGBTQ<\/abbr>+ Center<\/a> and 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Commission on LGBTQ<\/abbr>+ Equality<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Pride affirms members of our 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> community and lifts up the experiences of LGBTQ<\/abbr>+ and māhū (identity with male and female characteristics) people,” said Camaron Miyamoto<\/strong>, director of the 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Mānoa LGBTQ<\/abbr>+ Center. “Too many of our LGBTQ<\/abbr>+ and māhū students grew up with negative messages about themselves and their communities and this is a positive step to celebrate every aspect of who we are.”<\/p>\n

The Glades: Transgender Talk Story with Legendary Performer Brandy Lee<\/a>: October 6
\nLegendary Hawaiʻi<\/span> drag artists will share stories about performing at the Glades nightclub in Honolulu’s Chinatown in the 1960’s.<\/p>\n

National Coming Out Day Fair<\/a>: October 11
\nThe fair will showcase LGBTQ<\/abbr>+ resources available in Hawaiʻi<\/span> and provide a chance to celebrate with friends and make new connections.<\/p>\n

Honolulu Pride Parade<\/a>–糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Mānoa group: October 15
\nAll members of the 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Mānoa community are invited to march with the campus\u2019s group. The theme is “The 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Mānoa Rainbow Warrior QUEERtoons.” Meet at the Magic Island parking lot in Ala Moana Beach Park no later than 8 a.m.<\/p>\n

糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo<\/h3>\n

Coming Out Day Resource Fair: October 11
\n11 a.m.–2p.m., Library Lānai

\nStudents will learn the basic terminology of LGBTQ<\/abbr>+ and put their knowledge to the test through trivia style games. The LGBTQ<\/abbr>+ Center will distribute resources and pride themed giveaways.<\/p>\n

Windward Community College<\/h3>\n

National Coming Out Day Fair: October 11
\n11 a.m.–1 p.m., Hale Laʻakea<\/span> Breezeway (in front of the library)
\nJoin the Windward CC<\/abbr> LGBTQ<\/abbr>+ Commissioners to celebrate National Coming Out Day and Honolulu Pride Month. Enjoy free ice cream, learn about campus and community resources, and get free pride goodies.<\/p>\n
