The $3 million gift will provide three new scholarships for students at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo, including the first-ever endowed scholarship that specifically supports students in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (<abbr>LGBTQ<\/abbr>) community.<\/p>\n<p>The Kruschel <abbr>LGBTQ+<\/abbr> Endowed Scholarship for students who identify as <abbr>LGBTQ+<\/abbr> is a first for the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> System and <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo, which is one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2021\/09\/12\/us-news-best-colleges-rankings\/\">most diverse universities in the nation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/hilo-fall-2021-commencement-16-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"U H Hilo graduates\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-153517\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/hilo-fall-2021-commencement-16-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/hilo-fall-2021-commencement-16-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/hilo-fall-2021-commencement-16.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Kruschel First-Generation Endowed Scholarship gives preference to students who are the first in their families to attend college, while the Kruschel Endowed Scholarship is open to all full-time undergraduates or graduate students who graduated from a <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Island high school.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It\u2019s exciting to see these students celebrated and supported with scholarships that will open new opportunities for them,&rdquo; said <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo Chancellor <strong>Bonnie D. Irwin<\/strong>. &ldquo;Our university is stronger when all students have the tools and the resources they need to reach their full potential.&ldquo;<\/p>\n<p>The scholarships cover costs associated with attending school and have no limitations on what recipients may study, only that they be enrolled full-time to pursue a degree at <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo. Students will receive the funds starting with the 2022&#8211;23 school year.<\/p>\n<h2>Resources<\/h2>\n<p><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo offers an array of resources for its lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and asexual (<abbr>LGBTIQA<\/abbr>) students, including an <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/studentaffairs\/lgbtq\/\"><abbr>LGBTQ+<\/abbr> Center<\/a> and Pride Hilo, a registered independent student organization formed more than 30 years ago to nurture, educate and advocate for <abbr>LGBTIQA<\/abbr> issues on campus and in the community. Faculty and staff are also trained to provide safe zones for students, which raises awareness and encourages them to provide a comfortable place for <abbr>LGBTQ+<\/abbr> students.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> System, through the President\u2019s Office, also offers resources through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/president\/lgbtq\/\"><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer+ (<abbr>LGBTQ+<\/abbr>) Equality<\/a>, which promotes a safe and inclusive environment by creating a culture of equality, acceptance, respect and social justice across the university\u2019s 10 campuses.
