Tonouchi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;Pidgin Guerilla&rdquo; <strong>Lee A. Tonouchi<\/strong>\u2019s play about the relationship of an Okinawan &ldquo;faddah&rdquo; and his son in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>, delves into the nuances of an Okinawan family. Staging the poems from Tonouchi\u02bbs award-winning poetry book <em>Significant Moments in da Life of Oriental Faddah and Son<\/em> (Bess Press), the play highlights the values of the Uchin\u0101nchu (Okinawan immigrants and their descendants in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>Directed by <strong>Taurie Kinoshita<\/strong>, the cast includes Brandon Hagio (<em>Da Beer Can Hat<\/em> at Kumu Kahua Theatre), Allan Okubo (<em>Aloha Las Vegas<\/em> at Kumu Kahua Theatre), Dylan Leming (<em>Walter, the underneath<\/em> at Palik\u016b Theatre), Denise Aiko Chinen (<em><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> N\u014d Ka &#699;Oi &#8211; A Sakamoto Celebration<\/em>, Kennedy Theatre), and many more!<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;One of the themes is the difference between Asian Americans in California, and other states, and those of us in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>,&rdquo; Kinoshita said. \u201cI find it profoundly beautiful that in Hawai\u2018i we have a tradition of local humor. We laugh at things together; it is empowering.
