This year, $1.5 million in funding has been allocated to the competition, themed &ldquo;Building on Lessons Learned through the Pandemic.&rdquo; <strong>The deadline for submissions is May 2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Submissions for the competition may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Innovations in online and hybrid course and program delivery;<\/li>\n<li>Attracting and retaining new learners (including transfers, non-traditional students);<\/li>\n<li>High-impact practices that support student success and close achievement gaps;<\/li>\n<li>Holistic support for students, faculty and staff (including wellness, career development, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/provost\/initiatives\/strategic-investment-initiative\/\">2002 Provost Strategic Initiative Investment page<\/a> for more details.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We&#8217;ve seen many innovative proposals come through this competition, which led to successful and very impactful outcomes since their startups<br \/>&#8212;Michael Bruno<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2017\/11\/13\/initiative-to-address-challenges-facing-hawaii-launches\/\">inaugural competition, launched in 2017<\/a>, provided start-up funding for a diverse set of initiatives. (Photo credit: Scott Nishi, <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Foundation)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Among previously funded projects include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-maiki.org\/\">Center for Microbiome Analysis through Island Knowledge and Investigation<\/a> (<abbr>C-M\u0100IKI<\/abbr>), which was funded with an initial investment of $700,000. Blaisdell concert hall in May and November 2018.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/ovcr\/sii-abstracts\/symphony-of-the-hawaiian-birds\/\">Symphony of Hawaiian Bird<\/a> project is another example that incorporates both science and music, to help educate the community about Hawaiian birds and the ongoing extinction crisis faced by native forest bird species.
