  {"id":156124,"date":"2022-03-04T14:23:59","date_gmt":"2022-03-05T00:23:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=156124"},"modified":"2022-03-04T14:25:03","modified_gmt":"2022-03-05T00:25:03","slug":"crown-prince-akihito-scholarship-parker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2022\/03\/04\/crown-prince-akihito-scholarship-parker\/","title":{"rendered":"Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship awarded to <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> doctoral student"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><figure id=\"attachment_156097\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-156097\" style=\"width: 676px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/manoa-education-parker-j.jpg\" alt=\"headshot\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" class=\"size-full wp-image-156097\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/manoa-education-parker-j.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/manoa-education-parker-j-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/manoa-education-parker-j-130x73.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-156097\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">James &ldquo;JD&rdquo; Parker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M&#257;noa doctoral student earned a 2022&#8211;23 <a href=\"https:\/\/cpasfoundation.org\/\">Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/cpasfoundation.org\/2279-2\/\"><strong>James &ldquo;JD&rdquo; Parker<\/strong><\/a>, from the College of Education\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/coe.hawaii.edu\/edef\/programs\/global-and-international\/\">Educational Foundations (<abbr>EDEF<\/abbr>) Global and International Education program<\/a>, will receive a $45,000 allowance to study for one to two years at a Japanese university, which includes access to educational networks at the national and government levels.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Having devoted the better part of my career and academic studies to developing greater understanding between the U.S. and Japan, I know this scholarship will empower me with the credentials, skills and knowledge necessary to promote an interconnected Asia-Pacific region through education,&rdquo; stated Parker.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1959 to commemorate the wedding of then Crown Prince Akihito and Crown Princess Michiko, the scholarship is awarded to graduate students of Japan or the United States who are pursuing a subject area leading to better understanding between Japan and the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Parker\u2019s research investigates human rights education (<abbr>HRE<\/abbr>) as a global educational trend in the context of teacher training programs called &ldquo;Lesson Study in Japan.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;With the relatively young history of <abbr>HRE<\/abbr> in Japan, there is a dearth of research focusing on the essential mechanisms of <abbr>HRE<\/abbr> implementation and recontextualization within teacher professional development in Japan,&rdquo; explained Parker. &ldquo;This research is particularly relevant given the global debates around the increasing influence and participation of global education governance in schooling practices.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Parker will provide written reports to the Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship Foundation office in Honolulu during his time in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Educational Foundations is thrilled that James will have this support to conduct his research in Japan,&rdquo; said <abbr>EDEF<\/abbr> Associate Professor <strong>Alexander Means<\/strong>. &ldquo;The questions he is pursuing in his dissertation regarding human rights education are crucial at this time of global conflict and inequality.
