Resource managers, climate researchers, educators and students have a powerful new tool with the launch of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/climate-data-portal\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Climate Data Portal<\/a> (<abbr>HCDP<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_155845\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-155845\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/system-hawaii-climate-portal-rainbow-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Various measuring instruments in valley with a rainbow\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-155845\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/system-hawaii-climate-portal-rainbow-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/system-hawaii-climate-portal-rainbow-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/system-hawaii-climate-portal-rainbow.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-155845\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Climate Station located at Lyon Artoretum, Honolulu, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In support of closing data gaps and providing easy public access to climate data and information for the state, the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/epscor\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research<\/a> (<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> ESPCoR) &#699;Ike Wai project and the <a href=\"https:\/\/datascience.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Data Science Institute<\/a> have partnered with the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrrc.hawaii.edu\/\">Water Resources Research Center<\/a> (<abbr>WRRC<\/abbr>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastwestcenter.org\/\">East-West Center<\/a> on this online open-source platform that hosts a wide range of data products, climate tools and resources.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Climate Data Portal provides streamlined access to high-quality reliable data and information that can be utilized by a range of stakeholders and be incorporated into near-real-time planning activities and management decisions,&rdquo; said East-West Center Fellow and &#699;Ike Wai researcher <strong>Ryan Longman<\/strong>, who worked on the development of the portal with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/climate-data-portal\/team\/\">a team of about 20 from across <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> and the community<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Demonstrating the portal\u2019s power<\/h2>\n<p>After almost a decade of development, the <abbr>HCDP<\/abbr> launched on March 3, 2022, during a <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> EPSCoR and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Data Science Institute virtual event. Longman, <abbr>WRRC<\/abbr> director and &#699;Ike Wai project co-investigator <strong>Thomas Giambelluca<\/strong>, <strong>Sean Cleveland<\/strong>, lead software engineer from <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Information Technology Services, and a team of climate and data scientists who contributed to the development of the <abbr>HCDP<\/abbr>, demonstrated the data, tools and information available through the portal. Other features of the <abbr>HCDP<\/abbr> include climate map visualization and download tools, a library of related journal publications and reports, climate research highlights, information on Indigenous knowledge and climate perspectives, and links to decision support tools and resources.<\/p>\n<h2>Fire risk, drought forecasting in the future<\/h2>\n<p>In the near future, the <abbr>HCDP<\/abbr> will host data from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2021\/10\/10\/hawaii-mesonet-project\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Mesonet project<\/a> which will deploy more than 90 climate stations statewide.
