It is the only showing of the exhibit in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. A partnership with the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Public Library system will also assist in promoting the exhibit to public schools across the state.<\/p>\n<p>Chancellor <strong>Maenette Benham<\/strong> said, &ldquo;We are honored to host this exhibit and to cohost panel presentations and community discussions on critical topics. For example, through discussions that focus on historical cases of genocide and countries today that are at risk for mass atrocities, we can strategize both preventative measures as well as how to empower survivors. Learning to fight against hatred, intolerance and discrimination can inspire our students to be courageous and resilient!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/west-oahu-holocaust-exhibit-2-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Americans and the Holocaust exhibit panel\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-154652\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/west-oahu-holocaust-exhibit-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/west-oahu-holocaust-exhibit-2-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/west-oahu-holocaust-exhibit-2.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Based on extensive new research of that period, &ldquo;Americans and the Holocaust&rdquo; addresses important themes in American history, exploring the many factors\u2014including the Great Depression, isolationism, xenophobia, racism and antisemitism\u2014that influenced decisions made by the U.S. government, the news media, organizations and individuals as they responded to Nazism.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on a remarkable collection of primary sources from the 1930s and \u201840s, the exhibition focuses on the stories of individuals and groups of Americans who took action in response to Nazism.
