Mann<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the lead up to the United Nations Climate Summit in November and in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiibookandmusicfestival.com\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Book &#38; Music Festival<\/a>, the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> is hosting a public conversation with one of the country\u2019s most respected climate scientists, Michael E. Mann, director of Penn State\u2019s Earth System Science Center.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Michael Mann is a renowned researcher, and he has also become one of the country\u2019s most effective science communicators,&rdquo; said <strong>Makena Coffman<\/strong>, director of <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/isr\/\">Institute for Sustainability and Resilience<\/a>. &ldquo;While the increasing severity of climate impacts are driving many to despair, Mann never loses hope. He has made it his mission to remind us that it\u2019s not too late to act.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Coffman, a professor of <a href=\"https:\/\/durp.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">urban and regional planning<\/a> and a research fellow at the <a href=\"https:\/\/uhero.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Economic Research Organization<\/a>, will serve as moderator of the free online forum, The New Climate War: The Fight to Take Back Our Planet, on Friday, October 15 at 12 p.m. (<a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiibookandmusicfestival.com\/speakers\">Register online<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>In his book, <em>The New Climate War<\/em>, Mann argues that there is still time to stave off global warming\u2019s most disastrous effects. With better issue framing and well-designed policies, he contends, we can both navigate the climate emergency and work toward a more just and sustainable world.<\/p>\n<p>Mann is a leading figure in climate science. As a researcher, he combines theoretical models and observational data to understand the Earth\u2019s climate system, and he has published more than 200 scholarly publications and five books.
