Keawe Lopes, Jr.<\/strong>, who is also her kumu hula (hula teacher).<\/p>\n<p>Lopes and his wife, <strong>Tracie Lopes<\/strong> (<abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M&#257;noa alumna), prepared their h&#257;lau, Ka L&#257; <span aria-label=\"Onohi\">&#699;&#332;nohi<\/span> Mai O <span aria-label=\"Haehae\">Ha&#699;eha&#699;e<\/span> to participate in the solo and group categories at the world famous hula competition.<\/p>\n<p>Keamoai-Strickland scored 1,114 points for her performances on the Edith <span aria-label=\"Kanakaole\">Kanaka&#699;ole<\/span> Stadium stage.<\/p>\n<p>Her hula kahiko (traditional dance), <em>Hanohano <span aria-label=\"O\">&#699;O<\/span> Lehua<\/em> commemorated Queen <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\u2019s\">Kapi&#699;olani\u2019s<\/span> visit to <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> and <span aria-label=\"Niihau\">Ni&#699;ihau<\/span> to promote a campaign aimed at increasing the Hawaiian race or <span aria-label=\"Hooulu\">Ho&#699;oulu<\/span> L&#257;hui.<\/p>\n<p>Keamoai-Strickland\u2019s modern dance or hula <span aria-label=\"auana\">&#699;auana<\/span> paid tribute to <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M&#257;noa faculty member <strong>Lolena Nicholas<\/strong>, a m&#257;naleo (native speaker) resource for Kawaihuelani. Lopes composed Hanohano Hapuuhale for &ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Anake\">&#699;Anak&#275;<\/span> (Aunty) Lolena&rdquo; who is considered a living treasure and steadfast advocate for Hawaiian language revitalization.<\/p>\n<p>Audiences will be able to see Keamoai-Strickland take the stage again with her h&#257;lau during K5\u2019s televised broadcasts on Friday, July 2 (Hula Kahiko) and Saturday, July 3 (Hula <span aria-label=\"Auana\">&#699;Auana<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>Due to strict COVID-19 safety protocols, all performances at Merrie Monarch were pre-recorded from June 24&#8211;26.
