The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Hilo<\/a> will co-host the 20th Biennial Conference on Literature and Hawaiʻi<\/span>\u2019s Children<\/a>, a series of virtual events to help promote appreciation of children’s literature. The free online conference will run from June 4\u20138, and is sponsored by Children\u2019s Literature Hawaiʻi<\/span><\/a>. It will feature storytelling, educational workshops and presentations tailored toward keiki surrounding this year\u2019s theme, “A Net Full of Stories, Imagined and Real.”<\/p>\n

The 2021 conference will be held on Oʻahu<\/span> and Hawaiʻi<\/span> Island. It will stream online June 4–8, from Tenney Theatre and Chaminade University. 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo will host a virtual event on June 7, which requires a separate registration<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hawaiʻi<\/span> native Lehua Parker, author of several award-winning books including 2017 N\u0113n\u0113 Award nominee One Boy, No Water<\/em>, will headline conference events on Oʻahu<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Hawaiʻi<\/span> Island award-winning artist and author Caren Loebel-Fried, known for her eco-focused hand-colored block prints will be a featured guest at 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo\u2019s event.<\/p>\n

“The 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo English department is delighted to host a one-day Children\u2019s Literature Hawaiʻi<\/span> webinar,” said Kirsten Møllegaard<\/strong>, professor and chair of 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo\u2019s English department. “In organizing the Hilo event, we\u2019ve made an effort to celebrate the creativity, artistry and joy of working with children and literature that exist in our local communities.” <\/p>\n

The Hilo campus\u2019 event will also feature 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo faculty Justina Mattos<\/strong>, an assistant professor of performing arts who recently received the 糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Regents Medal for Excellence in Teaching and Kamalani Johnson<\/strong>, a lecturer and curriculum specialist at Ka Haka ʻUla<\/span> O Keʻelikōlani<\/span> College of Hawaiian Language<\/a>. Other speakers include a roundtable of children\u2019s librarians from public libraries in Kona, Kealakekua and Hilo.<\/p>\n

Audiences will also hear from local and national writers, artists, educators, scholars and performers during the conference.<\/p>\n
