{"id":141151,"date":"2021-05-10T16:00:43","date_gmt":"2021-05-11T02:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=141151"},"modified":"2021-05-10T16:10:47","modified_gmt":"2021-05-11T02:10:47","slug":"uh-hilo-mens-tennis-team-wins-regionals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2021\/05\/10\/uh-hilo-mens-tennis-team-wins-regionals\/","title":{"rendered":"<abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo men\u2019s tennis team wins regionals, headed to <abbr title=\"National Collegiate Athletic Association\">NCAA<\/abbr> Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hilo-athletics-tennis.jpg\" alt=\"U H Hilo men tennis players\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-141148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hilo-athletics-tennis.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hilo-athletics-tennis-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hilo-athletics-tennis-130x73.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/hiloathletics.com\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at Hilo Vulcans<\/a> won their second championship this season rallying from a 3-2 deficit for a 4-3 win over <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Pacific University (<abbr>HPU<\/abbr>) in the finals of the <abbr title=\"National Collegiate Athletic Association\">NCAA<\/abbr> Division <abbr title=\"Roman numeral two\">II<\/abbr> West Region Championships. <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo will head to the <abbr>NCAA<\/abbr> Championships for the third consecutive season, May 18\u201320 at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Center in Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, the Vulcans upset Azusa Pacific University (<abbr>APU<\/abbr>)for the Pacific West Conference Championships, 4-3.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I\u2019m proud of the way the guys fought until the very end,&rdquo; said head coach <strong>Kallen Mizuguchi<\/strong> after the match. &ldquo;This was a stronger <abbr>HPU<\/abbr> team than we played at conference two weeks ago (a 4-1 <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Hilo win), and it shows the kind of program that Hendrik (Bode) runs and how hard those guys can fight. It has always been a team win, and everyone plays a big role on this team.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Vulcans will now wait to hear where they will be seeded at the national championships on these same courts. Unlike years past, only one team from each of the <abbr>NCAA<\/abbr>\u2019s eight regions will be in the tournament, and will be seeded 1-8.
