The <a href=\"https:\/\/kcactf-8.org\/\">Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival<\/a> (<abbr>KCACTF<\/abbr>) Region 8 is normally held at different sites on the West Coast, making it difficult and expensive for <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> productions to appear. However, this year\u2019s online festival has allowed the productions to perform virtually.<\/p>\n<p><em>I&#8217;m Lot Lane (a solo effort)<\/em> from <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/liveonstage\/\"><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Theatre and Dance<\/a> and <em>Oriental Faddah and Son<\/em> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/programs-of-study\/theatre\/\">Windward Community College Theatre Program<\/a> are among six productions invited to the national showcase, February 10&#8211;13. <abbr>KCACTF<\/abbr> Region 8 encompasses college and university theatre productions from Arizona, Central and Southern California, Guam, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>, Southern Nevada and Utah. For more details and to register for the festival, <a href=\"https:\/\/kcactf-8.org\/\">visit the <abbr>KCACTF<\/abbr> Region 8 website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><em>I&#8217;m Lot Lane (a solo effort)<\/em><\/h2>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2020\/12\/01\/original-work-historic-vibe\/\">I&#8217;m Lot Lane (a solo effort)<\/a><\/em> made its debut on the virtual stage in December 2020. It is inspired by historical accounts of the last remaining royalist insurgent in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. Lot Lane turned himself into government forces by walking in and announcing &ldquo;I\u2019m Lot Lane&rdquo; during the Uprising of 1895. It is a brash production that pushes against the norms of what theatre has been used for in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. The production has a strong language warning.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;When you take into account that a festival like this, which would normally be very difficult for the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> to participate in, the pandemic has just completely leveled the playing field, allowing for us to go up against the big schools from that particular region,&rdquo; <abbr>MFA<\/abbr> candidate and project creator <strong>Keola Simpson<\/strong> said. &ldquo;I think we\u2019re even better because of our commitment to the online platform.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Simpson is from <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>, attended college in Los Angeles, and has lived and worked in New York City for the last 10 years. He has attended many festivals, including the <abbr>KCACTF<\/abbr> Region 8, and has seen the quality of <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> theatre productions increase over the last few years.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is a big opportunity for our department and the university, and hopefully we can go and show the Western U.S. that we know how to do this too,&rdquo; Simpson said.<\/p>\n<h2><em>Oriental Faddah and Son<\/em><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_125216\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-125216\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/windward-pookela-oriental-faddah-and-son-2-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Brandon Hagio and Dylan Leming\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-125216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/windward-pookela-oriental-faddah-and-son-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/windward-pookela-oriental-faddah-and-son-2-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/windward-pookela-oriental-faddah-and-son-2.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-125216\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brandon Hagio and Dylan Leming in <em>Oriental Faddah and Son<\/em>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The student cast of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2020\/03\/03\/oriental-faddah-and-son-paliku-theatre\/\">Oriental Faddah and Son<\/a><\/em> waited for nearly a year before finally being able to showcase its production. <em>Oriental Faddah and Son<\/em> was scheduled to be performed at Windward <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/campus-life\/arts-entertainment\/paliku-theatre\/\">Palik\u016b Theatre<\/a> in March 2020, but performances were abruptly canceled due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These remarkable student actors worked so hard&#8212;day and night, for weeks&#8212;only to have their show canceled on opening night,&rdquo; said <strong>Taurie Kinoshita<\/strong>, play director and Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> instructor. &ldquo;Getting to finally showcase this is a dream come true.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The production by Lee A. Tonouchi, also known as &ldquo;Da Pidgin Guerrilla,&rdquo; spotlights the relationship between a father and his son as part of a local <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Okinawan family.
