On September 1, Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> became the second <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhcc.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Community College<\/a> campus to significantly reduce its carbon footprint by generating 70% of its energy through on-site photovoltaic (<abbr>PV<\/abbr>) systems. Through the combination of solar shade canopies, distributed energy storage and energy efficiency measures, Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> will reduce its use of fossil fuel consumption for energy by an estimated 70 percent.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> News story:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2020\/07\/19\/leeward-first-uh-net-zero-campus\/\">Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> becomes <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>\u2019s first net-zero campus<\/a>, July 19, 2020<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The 3,125 <abbr>PV<\/abbr> modules installed on the Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> campus are capable of generating 1.469 megawatts of power annually, enough to power 177 homes every year, and offsetting greenhouse gas emissions equal to 3,554 barrels of oil a year.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;At Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>, we live our values,&rdquo; said Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> Chancellor <strong>Ardis Eschenberg<\/strong>. &ldquo;The addition of photovoltaic systems instantiates our institutional value of sustainability, as noted in the <em><span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"noeau\">no&#699;eau<\/span> (Hawaiian saying), he <span aria-label=\"alii\">ali&#699;i<\/span> ka <span aria-label=\"aina,\">&#699;&#257;ina,<\/span> he kauw&#257; ke kanaka<\/em> (the land is the chief, man is its servant).
