By mid-April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/uh-urgent-student-relief-fund-surpasses-1-million\">generous donors had given a total of $1 million<\/a> to directly support students at a time when they needed help the most.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/foundation-urgent-student-relief-fund-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Student with stress, researcher with microscope\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-125990\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/foundation-urgent-student-relief-fund-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/foundation-urgent-student-relief-fund-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/foundation-urgent-student-relief-fund.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It is just one example of the extraordinary generosity and strategic investments by donors to the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Foundation. Thanks to 17,414 donors, the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Foundation raised $84.7 million in fiscal year 2020 (July 1, 2019&#8211;June 30, 2020), directly benefiting students, faculty, research and programs on all 10 <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> campuses.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is an exceptional fundraising result considering the volatile and challenging year we have all had,&rdquo; said Rich Wacker, <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Foundation board chair. &ldquo;We are so grateful that our community members, foundations and corporations are coming together and funding solutions to help us navigate these times and re-imagine our future.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We thank our thousands of alumni and friends who are helping us help <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> in facing the present and setting a path forward so we can come back stronger than ever. <br \/>&#8212;David Lassner<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Givers to the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Foundation are extremely diverse as are the life-changing results of their investments in <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>. Individual donors gave more than $22 million, followed by foundations with almost $20 million. Corporations gave more than $16 million and <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> alumni gave more than $15 million. <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>\u2019s own faculty and staff also accounted for more than $7 million in donations.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> is absolutely critical to the success of our state and our people,&rdquo; said <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong>. &ldquo;We are so grateful to our many donors who are helping us provide the high quality affordable higher education opportunities needed in our communities to help both recent graduates and the recently unemployed find their paths to success.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our faculty are also the experts and critical thinkers who guide and lead the response to many of the challenges and opportunities <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> faces\u2014from climate change and sea level rise to community health, disaster response and economic recovery. Dorcy Hawaiian Foundation through the establishment of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/impact\/faculty\/poetic-justice-new-hawaiian-studies-chair-honors-poet-activist\">Dana Naone Hall Endowed Chair in Hawaiian Studies, Literature and the Environment<\/a> at <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M&#257;noa\u2019s <span aria-label=\"Hawaiinuiakea\">Hawai&#699;inui&#257;kea<\/span> School of Hawaiian Knowledge.<\/li>\n<li>Roberta Weil and the LaFrance Foundation established the first two endowments to support students participating in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kauai.hawaii.edu\/waialeale-project\"><span aria-label=\"Waialeale\">Wai&#699;ale&#699;ale<\/span> project<\/a> at <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Community College. <\/li>\n<li>Donors partnered with <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> to address the disruptions in college planning experienced by <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\u2019s\">Hawai&#699;i\u2019s<\/span> high school seniors. With funding from <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> partners at The Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation, the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, the Hawaii Resilience Fund of the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Community Foundation, Strada Education Network and the Stupski Foundation, the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Community Colleges were able to offer free, online <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/free-uh-community-college-classes-hawaiis-class-2020\">Next Step: Career Exploration<\/a> classes to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\u2019s\">Hawai&#699;i\u2019s<\/span> class of 2020 public high school graduates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Donors decide<\/h2>\n<p>Donors to the <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Foundation choose where they want their gifts to go.
