Burns School of Medicine<\/a>, is leading a team of scientists in the Department of Tropical Medicine, Medical Microbiology and Pharmacology, collaborating with New Jersey-based Soligenix, Inc. on the project.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66454\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66454\" style=\"width: 214px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/manoa-jabsom-lehrer-a-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"Axel Lehrer\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-66454\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/manoa-jabsom-lehrer-a-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/manoa-jabsom-lehrer-a.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66454\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Axel Lehrer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Lehrer Laboratory, Soligenix, and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><br \/>\n-based Hawaii Biotech, Inc., have previously demonstrated the feasibility of developing a thermostable Ebola virus and multivalent filovirus vaccines and applied the same technology platform to rapidly develop a vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19, the infection caused by <abbr title=\"severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2\">SARS-CoV-2<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Related <em><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> News<\/em> story: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2019\/02\/22\/uh-ebola-vaccine-withstands-high-heat\/\">Ebola virus developed by <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> can withstand high heat<\/a>, February 22, 2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;Our work to date has demonstrated not only the feasibility of rapid and efficient manufacturing of the required vaccine antigens, but also the potential for a broadly applicable and easily distributed vaccine,&rdquo; said Lehrer. &ldquo;We are delighted with our earlier successes on development of filovirus and flavivirus vaccines with this platform.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Their vaccine candidate successfully demonstrates the ability to rapidly stimulate a balanced antibody response, which includes potent <abbr>SARS-CoV-2<\/abbr> neutralization and cell-mediated immunity, a measure necessary to clear a viral infection.
